Game Drawings

Game Drawings in Perspective Critique

I think that my final Game Drawing piece was very successful. It had just about every element that I'd hoped it would have. It stood out in colors, it looked 3D on a camera, the vanishing points appeared as hoped, values and different highlights made the piece bold, and the shadows gave it gradation. I did have some difficulties, however, within the water color part of the project. It was hard to work with when the paper started crunching up and the water colors were in different shades as well. If I were to restart, the only changes I would make would be to not use black water color. Overall this was an enjoyable project.

Car stencil project critique

Famous Landmark or Transportation Stencil Critique
1. Explain how you changed your photo in the lab to create a stencil.
First I edited the threshhold of the picture in photoshop to show different positive and negative space in the car. Then I projected the picture onto a larger canvas to trace. Next I used the xacto knife to cut out the different pieces.

2. When creating the collage background explain your choices of colors, materials (magazine paper, books pages, etc), and placement. How does it relate to your topic? If no relation discuss general idea.
The general idea was to use lots of bright colors and weird pictures to create a collage that was very unique. I wanted the composition of the collage to be different textured and bold.

3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil.
The positve and negative space was used to show features in the car the car that were bloder than others. I cut out the negative space, while leaving the positve space. As you can see, this worked out very well when the final stencil was created.
4. When using the xacto knife, explain the safety procedures, how to use the knife and any challenges you had to overcome while cutting.
There were many difficulties in using the xacto knife. You couldn't cut towards you, otherwise it might slip and cut you. You couldn't get a firm grip on it when cutting the poster board. And it was hard to keep control of it.
5. How was your experience with the spray paint? Discuss how color choice is important, placement of stencil, and any other concepts you noticed while creating this.
The spray paint was probably the best part of the project. First we had to spray different patterns of paint onto the collage to give it a nice textured background. Then we put the stencil on top of the collage to spray paint it in with a darker color.

Anamorphosis Critique

Anamorphosis Critique

Word Bank: Use these vocabulary words in your responses. Please underline or make letters bold when you use them.

Grid       colored pencils anamorphosis                 photoshop        transform         scale
Perspective      shadows             value

1. Describe the process you went through to change your object into the correct perspective to create the drawing. This is when you were in the lab.
First we used photoshop to transform and scale our pictures so that we'd be able to draw them. When we printed them out, we created a 1x1 grid to see each individual part of the piece.

2. How did distorting and stretching the object allow for you to create a drawing that would look different to the viewer?
It made it a little bit easier to see the values and the scale of which we were distorting the items in the picture. When looked at normally, it looked like a weird shape of a soda bottle. if looked at by an angle it looked almost 3D

3. What were the most important concepts in the project to make it successful?
I used perspective to show how the 3 dimensional figure looked, and shadow to add dimension. This was how I created the colored pencil anamorphisis

Final Print: "Shark's Bite"

<----- Final Print

SELF EVALUATION

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
The compostition consisted of a foreground, middle, and background. In the foreground, the shark is the first thing you see. In the middle and background I have the corals and different plants that would make up a coral reef.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
To show the different contrast and textures, I used the background. The only textures on the shark would be scales which are extremely hard to see. It is this reason why I used the backround for textures. Plants, coral, and rocks have very defined textures which made it easier to show.

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
I used the positive and negative space to show the different contrast between textured objects and solid objects. In the positive space, I drew the shark and rocks. In the negative space I drew the different textures of the objects.

4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
I believe that the craftsmanship of my print could have been better, but was overall very neat and nice. The cuts in the linoleum we deep enough when needed, and the shapes were perfectly cut. The only area I could have improved was the middle ground.
5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back-     ground? Explain.
Yes. The contrast between the three mediums proved to be excelent at showing depth. I was overjoyed to see how it affected my print in such a way that it made the print look like it was popping off of the paper.

Wall Chalk Mural

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
I'm very pleased with the outcome of of the chalk mural. The only problem we had was figuring out which one to do out of our many choices. Other than that, it went smoothly.
2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
You all have to agree on the same thing. If one person disagrees then it won't work out. As long as everyone works together as a team and agrees on everything to do, it will work out perfectly.

3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I thought that it could have been better around the communication, but other than that we got the job done. After we learned how to shade properly it looked better. Than we put in the different colors which really made it stand out.

4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Involving the whole school?
It felt good that some people appreciated our work. it was also fun to see the way some people interacted with it. Overall I was pleased to let people interact and mess around with it.
