Final Print: "Shark's Bite"

<----- Final Print

SELF EVALUATION

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
The compostition consisted of a foreground, middle, and background. In the foreground, the shark is the first thing you see. In the middle and background I have the corals and different plants that would make up a coral reef.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
To show the different contrast and textures, I used the background. The only textures on the shark would be scales which are extremely hard to see. It is this reason why I used the backround for textures. Plants, coral, and rocks have very defined textures which made it easier to show.

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
I used the positive and negative space to show the different contrast between textured objects and solid objects. In the positive space, I drew the shark and rocks. In the negative space I drew the different textures of the objects.

4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
I believe that the craftsmanship of my print could have been better, but was overall very neat and nice. The cuts in the linoleum we deep enough when needed, and the shapes were perfectly cut. The only area I could have improved was the middle ground.
5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back-     ground? Explain.
Yes. The contrast between the three mediums proved to be excelent at showing depth. I was overjoyed to see how it affected my print in such a way that it made the print look like it was popping off of the paper.

Wall Chalk Mural

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
I'm very pleased with the outcome of of the chalk mural. The only problem we had was figuring out which one to do out of our many choices. Other than that, it went smoothly.
2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
You all have to agree on the same thing. If one person disagrees then it won't work out. As long as everyone works together as a team and agrees on everything to do, it will work out perfectly.

3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I thought that it could have been better around the communication, but other than that we got the job done. After we learned how to shade properly it looked better. Than we put in the different colors which really made it stand out.

4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Involving the whole school?
It felt good that some people appreciated our work. it was also fun to see the way some people interacted with it. Overall I was pleased to let people interact and mess around with it.

Leopard Shark! (In the making)

   <----After

<----Before

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
Because it shows contrast between the front, middle, and distant objects. My shark doesn't have much texture so I will have to include more texture with its surroundings. Like the coral and rocks.

2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
So you can get a good idea of how the animal lives, where it lives, and what it looks like. A leopard shark's surroundings may vary, so I tried to mix in a little bit of everything by puting it in a coral reef/ open environment. All leopard sharks have similar markings so looks weren't hard.
3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
Yes, my shark will be the one to be made into a print. I can tell because I've put the most effort into this one. The texture is also the best out of the 3 sketches.
